D4 R7 Highways Project breaks ground in VIP ceremony, Slovakia

On Monday 24 October 2016, the Bratislava D4R7 highways contract held its Groundbreaking Ceremony to mark the beginning of the project. Held in Slovakia’s Samorin Village, the event was well attended by government officials, mayors from the municipalities involved and senior figures from the JV companies.

The Ferrovial Agroman project team, D4R7, BratislavaThe official stone tapping ceremony to mark the beginning of construction on the project was performed after a number of speeches including those delivered by Mr Ersek, Minister of Transport, Construction and Regional development in the Slovak Republic, Mr Bugár, Deputy Chairman of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, Jaime Lamela, CEO Zero Bypass Ltd, the Cintra consortium.

Funding for the project was secured in May 2016 and since then there has been close collaboration between the engineers, designers, archaeologists and the ministry to ensure the best solutions are reached and value engineering is fully achieved.

On behalf of Ferrovial Agroman, the event was attended by Ignacio Clopes, Area 2 (Europe Asia Australia) Director, Enrique Nieto, Director of Highways UK, Ireland & Slovakia and the project's management including General Manager of the site, Juan Jose Bregel.

The design and build of the 27 kilometre highway (D4) and the 32km radial highway awarded to the consortium between Ferrovial Agroman and Austrian company PORR in June 2016.

The D4 will involve construction of 27 km of new dual carriageway between Jarovce and Raca, creating a beltway to the east of the city. The R7 is a new 32km radial highway with 2-3 lanes each way, running in a south-easterly direction from the city centre. The entire scheme also involves the construction of 9 interchanges and almost 100 bridges and bridge structures, including a new bridge crossing of the River Danube.
